HACS Construction is proud to be playing a key role in one of Yorkshire’s most exciting and meaningful developments — the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) Big Airbase Build. The project will deliver a modern, purpose-built facility designed to strengthen YAA’s operations, enhance patient care, and provide a first-class working environment for its crews and support teams.

On Sunday 20th October, two teams from HACS took on the 26.2mile Yorkshire Marathon as a relay. Running legs ranging from 3 - 6.1miles, both teams completed the course in just under 4 hours, raising £6,552.50 (including Gift Aid) for Saint Michael's Hospice.

HACS Runners: Mark Teasdale, Carolyn Teasdale, Stuart Gandy, Eddie Ashworth, Colin Green, Ash Wilson, Amelia DuBoulay, Rachel Hughes, Giles White, Matt Roe, Dean Lloyd & Greg Smallwood.

Well done to all the runners who took on the challenge on a rainy Sunday in York. Despite the conditions the teams gave it their best shot and managed to finish in positions 26 & 27 with just over a minute between each other. 3hr 58minutes for Team 1 and 3 hr 59 mins for Team 2.

We would like to thank all of our employees, clients, suppliers and friends who donated to the cause. We were thrilled to raise another 6k for the local charity, Saint Michael's Hospice. The HACS Group has been Patrons of the Hospice for many years and donate an annual yearly contributed but this additional funding could help provide 258 hours of nursing on their inpatient unit, cover food costs on their inpatient unit for 45 days or enable their HOME service to travel over 721 miles to deliver vital care at patients’ homes.

At the start of 2024 we set out to increase our annual £12k contribution to Saint Michael's Hospice, we aimed to reach closer to £19k as we learnt this was the total running cost for the centre for just 1 day - thanks to all involved we are pretty much there!

In 2020 we set out to raise £10,000 for Saint Michael's Hospice as part of our 35th anniversary year, the Pandemic set us back a year or two but this June we smashed our target as our fundraising total exceeded £15,000!

In February 2020, The HACS Group pledged to raise £10,000 for Saint Michael’s Hospice as part of our 35-year anniversary celebrations. Sadly, plans had to be halted due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, which saw many organised events and fundraising activities cancelled, but that didn’t stop us, especially knowing that the charity needed support more than ever, and as a result we have now raised over £15,000 for the local charity.

The main fundraising activity was The Total Warrior event at Bramham Park this June, 23 ‘HACS Warriors’ signed up for the 12k obstacle course, including our Managing Director Mark Smith who said he was “proud of the whole team that took part and it was a fantastic day out for a great cause.”

The Total Warrior raised £10,059 towards the fundraising total and we were blown away by the donations. Eddie Ashworth, Commercial Director said “The support we received from friends, family, clients, suppliers and colleagues was amazing and it was the motivation we all needed to train, turn up and complete the course on the day, we can’t thank everyone enough!”

The Yorkshire Three Peaks in March 2020, completed by 4 team members in just under 9.5hrs, raising £1,517. Anne Smith said “‘Sergeant Major Ashworth’ ensured we stayed on course and we gruelled it out in the rain, wind, snow and a tiny bit of sunshine.”

Commercial Director Eddie Ashworth said: “We have always had Saint Michael’s close to our hearts, and as a local company with over 100 employees, many of our colleagues and their families have had experience and the benefit of services provided by Saint Michael’s.

“We’re proud to be raising money for Saint Michael’s – a vital local charity offering care and support to those living with terminal illness and bereavement – following a tough couple of years, we know our community has needed the charity more than ever before and we’re delighted to have been able to support them with our contribution.”

Thanks to the remarkable support of our community, we’re able to ensure we reach those across the Harrogate district with personalised and compassionate care, in the right place, at the right time.”

The team originally signed up in 2020 and due to the pandemic entries were deferred to this June. The majority of the team honoured this commitment (although some a little nervous that lockdown had impacted their fitness levels), and with only a few team changes 23 HACS Warriors started and completed the course on Saturday 25th June.

The team originally set out to raise £5k to put towards the £10k target (£3k already being raised in 2020), however we successfully managed to more than double our target, raising a total of £10,059 for the Total Warrior Event alone.

The event was a 12k course with 25 punishing obstacles. If you know some of the team you'll know that there were varying fitness levels, ages and enthusiasm! But despite this everyone completed the course and explained that they had enjoyed it a lot more than they initially thought they would do.

The HACS Group have been Patrons of the local charity for over 7 years and is one very close to our hearts. Saint Michael's is here for people who need extra support on top of the day-to-day care they receive from GPs, district nurses, hospital teams and nursing home staff. Without the hospice, these people could be left to face the complex issues and forgotten challenges of terminal illness alone.

The Great Knaresborough Bed Race is something different: it is part fancy dress pageant and part gruelling time trial over a 2.4 mile course, ending with a swim through the icy waters of the River Nidd.

The event was born out of the enthusiasm of the newly-formed Knaresborough Round Table in 1966, an organisation looking for a major charity fund-raising push. They came up with the idea of a time-trial in which teams would follow a pre-determined course pushing beds around the town. The unique combination of Knaresborough's almost perpendicular climbs and cobbled streets, the swim across the Nidd and the fancy dress pageant have worked together to make this such a huge and successful community event each year. Since 1998 the event has been run by The Knaresbourough Lions who stage the event for charity.

Each team is made up of 6 runners and a passenger. This years those brave HACS runners were; Chris Smith, Will Kellett, Spencer Drake, Damien Bedau, Rachel Jones, Ash Wilson, Eddie Ashworth, Paul Mayhew, Ben Whyte, Giles White, Josh Mann and Colin Green, and the lucky passengers being Dan Ashworth and Jacob Tiller. The HACS teams came 42nd and 44th out of 79 finishing beds. A great effort by all!

Also a bg shout out to all the HACS Traffic Management team who work hard to close the roads and manage the crowds to make the event run smoothly on the day.

This years race was a glorious sunny day which made a great day out for spectators but all the more challenging for runners and staff so thanks to all for all your efforts and we're already looking forward to 2023!

The HACS Group have been working with Brierley Homes on a new housing development in Pateley Bridge and are proud to be supporting the local community by donating materials to Nidderdale's 'Men's Shed' charity.

While Brierley Homes and The HACS Group have been busy creating new homes with the Millwright Park development in Pateley Bridge, they have taken the opportunity to support the Men’s Shed with a donation of materials.
